Genevieve Jack ~ The Ghost & the Graveyard ~ Give@way!

The Ghost and the Graveyard
by Genevieve Jack

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Left destitute by an unscrupulous ex-boyfriend, Grateful Knight takes her father up on his offer to live rent-free in a house he hasn't been able to sell. Desperate to make a new start, Grateful tries to overlook the property’s less desirable features, like the graveyard that stretches to her back door. On the bright side, the unbelievably gorgeous cemetery caretaker, Rick, is dead set on helping her feel at home. She vows to take things slow, considering her recent disastrous relationship, but is baffled when she literally can’t keep her hands off of him.
When things in Grateful’s house start moving on their own, another man enters her life—a sexy ghost with a dark secret. Magical forces are at work in the tiny town of Red Grove and they're converging on Grateful. Solving this ghostly mystery won’t be easy and with the caretaker becoming increasingly jealous of her spectral relationship, Grateful will be forced to choose between the ghost and the graveyard.
Excerpt:
I was thinking he belonged in a museum, a chiseled-by-the-gods man museum, when my brain was hijacked. I forgot about the road. I forgot where I was going. And a fantasy hit me so fast and hard, it could’ve been a memory.
We were in the shower. I was behind him, my arms wrapped around his torso. I rubbed lather circles down his chest, over his rock-hard abs, and lower. In my daydream, he moaned my name, and I was considering how to move myself around him without breaking the rhythm. The scene was so vivid, the lavender scent of soap filled the cab of my Jeep.
What snapped me out of it was a barrage of pebbles hitting the undercarriage. I slammed on the brakes, sending my vehicle into a reckless skid toward the edge of a stone bridge straight out of one of those Thomas Kinkade prints. Whether it was ace driving skills, gravity, or sheer dumb luck, I stalled at the precipice, all white-knuckles and shivering limbs. I suppressed a lingering fear of plummeting to my doom.
"Hey, are you okay?" the man called. He’d dropped his shovel and was heading toward me. His dark eyes narrowed in concern.
No way was I explaining what just happened. I couldn’t possibly tell him about my fantasy and I wasn’t a good enough liar to make up an alternate story on the fly. The hot sting of a blush crept across my face just thinking about it.
Krystal Shannan Interviews - RT Wolfe - Black Creek Burning - Romantic Suspense
Please help me welcome R.T. Wolfe to the blog today!
Thank you for having me today on your lovely blog, Krystal!
You are quite welcome!
Tell us a little about yourself.
My romantic suspense, Black Creek Burning, is the first in a series set in beautiful upstate New York. I enjoy creating diverse characters and twining them together in the midst of an intelligent mystery and a heart encompassing romance.
It’s not uncommon to find dark chocolate squares in my candy dish, my Golden Retriever at my feet and a few caterpillars spinning their cocoons in their terrariums on my counters. I love my family, gardening, eagle-watching and can occasionally be found viewing a flyover of migrating Whooping cranes.
Did you always want to be an author?
Writing chose me. I’m not sure what made me type out those first few sentences years ago. They turned into a few pages, then a few hundred pages. The research, the editing, revisions, critiques…I love it all. Writing quickly became my crack cocaine and there’s no turning back now.
What is your favorite part of being a writer/author?
My readers. I would write without them, but they are my favorite part. I love to give someone the opportunity to escape to another time and place; to feel warmth, emotion and closure. When someone contacts me to say they’re using toothpicks to hold their eyelids open at work because they were up late reading my book, that’s a good day.
Tell us a little about your book.
Black Creek Burning is a romantic suspense about Brianna Chapman, the only witness to the murder of her parents…an arson that was meant for her. After several years, Brianna learns to cope by burying herself in her beloved teaching job by day and landscaping business by night. What she doesn’t count on is nationally renowned woodworking artist, Nathan Reed. He and his two adorable young nephews move into the run-down historical farmhouse behind her. Nathan pushes his way through Brianna’s hard shell and is determined to both win her heart and solve the murder.
Brianna Chapman learns to handle just about anything. Witnessing the murder of her parents had that effect. Knowing the unsolved arson had been meant for her isn’t as easy to overcome. Instead, she stuffs her guilt soundly into her subconscious through diving into the teaching job she loves by day and the dirt of the landscaping business she owns by night. Her habit of remaining aloof to personal relationships is, well, working.
Will her guilt be as easy to keep buried if the killer comes back to finish the job?
In the midst of juggling a scorched yard, dead animals on her doorstep and her vandalized car, the one thing she didn’t count on was the staggering Nathan Reed. A nationally renowned woodworking artist, Nathan and his two priceless nephews move into the run-down historical house behind her and over Black Creek. They have a canny way of maneuvering around her aloof demeanor and into her heart. Will they still want to be part of her life when they discover she is haunted by past memories and hunted by present dangers?
Excerpt:
“I’m not above doing that. You should know that. I can take care of my own car.” Brie turned as she thought of just how she was going to do that, and reached up to pull out a single tea bag and mug. “And there is no you and me. It was just a kiss. Now, we have to move backward for Andy’s sake.” And mine, she thought.
He made his way to her in three long strides, picked her up by the shoulders and plopped her on the kitchen counter, smashing his mouth to hers. Framing the side of her face with one hand, Nathan laced his fingers in her pinned up hair with the other.
She couldn’t think and for the first time in her life let go. Slipping away from her blessed control, she blocked out the possible consequences and surrendered to the now. Her skin nearly ignited from the feel of his body as she pulled him in closer. She held onto his lanky back, his strong arms, feeling his rough hands on her face, in her hair. His mouth and his tongue emptied her mind. She clamped her eyes shut and wanted to stay right there. As he’d done at the midnight hour in her basement, he pulled away as quickly as he took her.
Nathan whispered close to her face, “Just a kiss my ass.”
Love it!
Do you plot and outline or do you just write?
I try to be a plotter, honestly I do. But my characters have other ideas…and their ideas are generally better than my outline. So, I’ll say I am a plotter…who revises constantly.
Can you tell us about the process of getting your first book published?
Crimson Romance ran a call for submissions. I responded and was offered a contract…which spurred other offers. It was the craziest week of my life, but Crimson was the one who asked first. So, I chose them.
What advice would you give new authors?
I would tell new authors to finish their books. I know so many who have written for years without finishing a single project. I am closure gal. It makes me sad.
What have you learned about the business?
It varies as much as any other, I suppose. The trick is writing a quality piece, finding an honest publisher and juggling marketing without letting it make you crazy. I’m getting there. lol
Do you have another book in the works?
Yes. Black Creek Burning is book one in the Black Creek Trilogy. Book two, To Fly in Shadows will debut in February with the third installment, Dark Vengeance, following in July. But don’t worry, there are no cliff hangers in my work…closure, remember?
What do you like to do in your free time, besides read and write of course?
I drive all over the Midwest watching my sons’ swim meets. Three sons who all swim competitively? How did this happen? I love it. In my spare time, I am a school teacher, a Pilates instructor and a green belt in Tae Kwan Do. Gardening is my second drug and I spend time working with my golden retriever every chance I get.
Busy lady!
Where do you dream of going on vacation?
Alaska. Can I just live there? I love the open and nature. Cold doesn’t bother me.
Boxers or Briefs?
Briefs. Yum.
Cookies or cake?
Cookies!
Pizza or hamburger?
Burger
Beer, Wine, or mixed drink?
Bottle of Bud to go with the burger, please
(Hero/Heroine Character Questions)
What were your first impressions of each other?
I thought Nathan was a lazy father who moved his sons into a rundown, piece of crap farmhouse so that he could play in the enormous garage and brush his kids off onto their grandparents. Okay, maybe he was an attractive, swaggering, hot lazy father, but none the less…
Brie was someone to shake your head at, that’s for damned sure. Not pretty in the standards of society, but confident in an irresistibly sexy sort of way. I had my own life to work on. Hell, I sold my woodworking business just so I could move back to my hometown and create a better life for the nephews I inherited after the death of my brother. But when you have a brunette who spends more time outside in the dead of winter than most do in the summer time…you wonder.
What’s your favorite characteristic of each other?
Nathan is calm, and sly, and somehow maneuvers around the careful walls I’ve so meticulously built. He’s never scared off by the…things that keep happening to me and my home. He and those dang adorable nephews of his worked their way right into my heart.
Brie goes out of her way to help an elderly neighbor, a boy who’s teased at school and holds an enormous party in honor of her deceased parents even though it pains her. There’s something about digging into those green eyes of hers and finding out what’s behind them.
What are your plans for the near future?
The near future is filled with publishing this trilogy. My readers are ruthless. They hound me, taunt me, threaten me and I love every minute of it!
R.T. was born and raised in the Midwest, the youngest of six children. She married at a young age and decided early on she wanted a family herself. With three small boys in tow, she and her husband flipped two houses with R.T. in charge of the landscape design and install. Now, she is rooted in the final home they designed inside and out.
Now that her boys are nearly grown, R.T. spends much of her time on the road traveling from one sporting event to another serving as mom and cheerleader. When at home, she enjoys Pilates, working with her Golden Retriever and digging in the glorious dirt of her landscaping plots.
During one of many busy and restless nights, R.T.’s first novel began to pluck its way onto her laptop. It was a drug, an instant addiction that only grew with time. Moments borrowed and stolen at her laptop are, now, between all of the travel and work and many of those busy, restless nights. After several edits, revisions and versions later R.T.’s first novel, Black Creek Burning, will debut September 24th.
Krystal Shannan - WIP - Pride Rules - #26 - #SixSunday
Hi, welcome back for another taste of Darren and Eshe. It's getting a little warm in here.
Images of them naked intertwined on the floor flashed through her mind. Focus! She mentally slapped herself.
“Eshe, you smell like a lion, taste like a lion, and your eyes are flickering gold just like mine. Whether or not you can shift or if you are only half lion is of no concern to me. You are my solstice mate and I want you.”
Happy Writing,
Happy Reading,
Krystal Shannan
Aphrodite from OPEN HOUSE swings by for a visit!
Aphrodite walks into the interview room. She twirls a finger through her long curly auburn tresses. Twinkling ice blue eyes and a friendly smile meet the gaze of Krystal Shannan.
Copper beads dangle from her ears and wide bands of engraved copper clink on her wrists. White denim leggings, brown leather high-heeled stiletto boots, and a sparkling champagne colored tunic finish off the Vogue worthy ensemble.
Aphrodite: Thank you for having me over today, Krystal.
K. Shannan: I super excited you came by. I poured a glass of your favorite.
Aphrodite: Mmmmm. Thank you.
She sits down on the chair facing Krystal.
K. Shannan: Could you tell us a little about the book?
Aphrodite: It’s about a young couple, Rebecca and Robert, who missed their first chance at bonding. They are soul mates and it takes some intervention on my part to get them where they are supposed to be. I don’t usually like to interfere on the mortal realm, but Ares left me no choice.
K. Shannan: Tell us a little about Ares. I know you and he have a history.
Ares, the God of War, is a complicated situation. We had a relationship and then he ruined it and now…. I don’t know…. I think he is trying to piece it back together. He’s certainly making a valiant effort, but we’ll just see. I’d rather not get into details at this time.
K. Shannan: Do you want to share a little about soul mates?
Aphrodite: Of course. You know your soul is immortal, right? Well, now you do. Most humans refuse to believe such nonsense, no scientific proof and all. Well, they are wrong. Your souls live lifetime after lifetime, always looking for their mate. Once two souls have joined as mates, they are together for the rest of eternity. When one dies, it will wait until it’s mate dies and then they will reincarnate together in the same decade so they can be together again. Joined souls are drawn to each other like magnets, once joined it would take an act of a god to separate them. Believe me, that is not a pleasant experience.
K. Shannan: I'll take your word for it.
Aphrodite: Souls that are looking for their mate, but haven’t found them yet, are also drawn to each other, but the pull is not nearly as strong. That is where I come in. I assist with that little extra push to make sure the soul mating is complete. Of course that assistance only happens when I have physically meet the person the soul resides in. I must touch the soul to be able to track it. Needless to say, you might meet me at a local wine festival and not even know it. *wink* I love wine festivals. Dionysus and I have a long-standing partnership.
K. Shannan: Why are the souls so important to you?
Aphrodite: I’m connected to them and them to me. When souls ache, I ache. When souls are joined I am refreshed. It is a symbiotic relationship. One cannot exist without the other.
Mother Gaia gave me a gift no other Titan received. I am linked to humanity in a way that can never be broken and the other gods have never been pleased by that fact. It keeps me stronger than any of them. All the other Titans were banished or killed, but they cannot get rid of me without getting rid of the human race. And that would just be stupid. The Olympians are not stupid. Petty and vindictive, yes, stupid…. No.
K. Shannan: Several people have asked why you say you are a Titan. Most people think of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, as an Olympian.
Aphrodite: There is an Olympian named Aphrodite, but she is not the Goddess of Love. Zeus named his daughter after me to irritate me. *hiss* Which it did. That sniveling little cheerleader called a goddess deals in physical lusts and instant attractions. Superficial passions, I suppose you could call it. She has nothing to do with actual love and true human passion.
K. Shannan: What do you like to do when you aren’t helping souls?
Aphrodite: *Huge grin* I love fashion. I subscribe to every human fashion magazine I can find. Dionysus teases me, but I love clothes. We may be gods, but we can definitely appreciate many human conveniences –coffee, clothing, chocolate. I just joined social media, too. I was tired of being told I needed to join the twenty-first century. You can visit me at my FaceBook fan page, Aphrodite – Pool of Souls Series, for all kinds of updates and musings.
K. Shannan: Thanks again for coming by today. It's been so nice chatting with you today. Readers, Aphrodite has graciously offered to answer questions. So please ask away.
In the meantime we have a little excerpt to share with you......
Intrinsically woven into the fabric of human existence, Aphrodite, Titan Goddess of Love and Passion, dedicates herself to matching soul mates.
Rebecca Carol and Robert Corvin missed their original chance to bond when Ares, God of War, took control of Robert's career ten years ago. Their souls have naturally pulled them back together for a second chance at love, but... How far will the gods go to get their own way?
Will divine influence create another perfect match or will it tear them apart forever?
A deep male voice boomed through her garden, breaking her concentration. “Aphrodite!” The images of Robert and Rebecca swirled and were lost as the pool’s surface went clear. She turned to face the irate male.
“Ditee! Why can’t you just leave well enough alone?”
Aphrodite leaned against the cool rock and gave him a lazy smile. She’d expected Ares to complain. Robert Corvin played a key role in research and weapon development for the United States. No human got into his position without a little shove from the god of war.
“I will do exactly as I wish, especially when it comes to souls who have searched as long as these two have.”
“He’s mine, Ditee. I’ve finally got him where he will be of most use, and now I hear he has moved. Because of a girl! I knew it was your fault. Hands off.” His eyes flashed red, and a deep growl rumbled from his chest.
Aphrodite rose to face him. Her power rose and flamed within her, causing her skin to glow white. Ares took a step back. “You will not speak to me so rudely,” she said, her voice taking on its godly attributes, booming across the garden like a sonic wave. Ares stumbled a little from the force. “I am your superior. These souls deserve to be together, and you will not interfere.”
“The hell I won’t.”
Coming Soon to a dream near you! - Christina McKnight
Please help me welcome Christina McKnight to the blog today! I'm so excited to have her and I hope you are too!
Christina McKnight is a book lover turned writer. From a young age, her mother encouraged her to tell her own stories. She’s been writing ever since.
In college, Christina took many courses to help develop and enhance her writing skills. She completed a seventy-page dissertation on the need for community policing in American society. Now, she focuses on Historical Romance, Urban Fantasy, and Paranormal Romance. Her debut Urban Fantasy novel, Only in Her Dreams, was released on September 1, 2012
Christina lives in Northern California with her husband, daughter, two boxers, two cats, and a Beta fish named Marmaduke.  If she’s not behind a computer screen or book, she’s busy leading her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. She is very active in several writing groups and a local book group.
Did you always want to be an author? What made you choose to write romance?
Growing up I was the student who wrote ten pages for a two page book report. In college my dissertation was twice the required page count. My mom hounded me from a very young age to write. We frequently read the same books and I’d guess the ending half way through…to both our surprise I was right most of the time. If I wasn’t right, my mom said my ending was better. I think I’ve always been a writer, but it’s only been in the last eight years that I’ve really applied myself to developing a complete story.
Tell us a little about your book. What inspired you to write it?
When Lucessa Sarcona awakes from a recurring dream, she has no idea her life is about to be turned upside down. A stranger, familiar to her dreams, shows up in the flesh, and Lucessa knows she’s either crazy or experiencing something not of this world.
A war ensues between three demigod brothers. One, trained to rule Erebos, is violently replaced. One forced to return to his homeland and lead the dream-gods of the Oneiroi. And one is charged with the impossible task of protecting Lucessa. How is she linked to the Oneiroi? Why do two brothers seek to keep her hidden and protected? And how does another plan to use her against the two demigods who love her?
Will Lucessa’s dream man have the courage to claim her as his own or will he bow to the command of another, forsaking the one he loves?
Only in Her Dreams is a modern spin on a Greek legend--the new direction of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, moving from angels, demons, vampires, and witches and toward the realm of demigods.
Only in Her Dreams actually came to me in a dream. Ironic, I know. Several times I dreamt of a man watching me. He never approached, moved, or spoke, but stayed silently in the background. I starting thinking: Who is this guy? What does he want?
A fellow writer -and self-proclaimed dream expert- said the man may be someone I’ve come into contact with recently. My next question: What if this mystery man from my dream showed up in real life?
Only In Her Dreams, The Oneiroi Book 1 took off from there.
Excerpt:
Maxim watched her enter the room through the back door. She looked so different from when he observed her in her dreams. They were not his to control, only to observe--from a distance. Most of them took place before her father died, therefore she appeared as a child of about seven. Gone were the long, stringy brown pigtails, and in their place was a mane of rich mahogany hair that hung just past the middle of her back. The oversized pants and flowered t-shirt were replaced with a pair of skin-tight jeans and a blue polo that read ‘The Queen Bean.’
His first trip to Earth in twenty-two years, and all he could do was stare at the girl he’d watched over for more than two decades. Maybe his brother was right; the Oneiroi weren’t meant to interact with humans. It wasn’t safe--for humans or his kind. This must be why his father, Morpheus, forbade the Oneiroi to pass between the two worlds all those years ago. The temptation was just too great.
She looked up at the clock and then her eyes met his. In them he saw recognition, confusion, fear, and then panic. His thoughts of staying an invisible, silent observer were gone. Her eyes seemed to be drawn to him. It was time to go; he’d done enough damage. Guy expected him to stay hidden and unknown to the girl. He stood and walked out the front door of the coffee shop, determined to find a better way to protect her.
Do you plot and outline or do you just write?  Plotter or Pantser?
I flew by the seat of my pants (pantser) for Dreams. I had a vague idea of a story, with zero concept of where the story would lead. I didn’t know my characters, their motivations or goals.
Only in Her Dreams was my 2011 NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) project. I completed to first draft in fewer than forty days. It was a whirlwind adventure for me. My characters took me way out of my comfort zone, challenging me to fit the pieces together.
I’m taking a different approach with my current work in progress, Shunned No More. It’s a historical romance that takes me back to my roots, a genre that’s nearest my heart. I’ve spent about twenty hours plotting and outlining everything, including the beginning, middle, dark moment, twists, and the ending resolution.  I know my characters’ motivations and goals. Although, I’m not completely convinced all this will help when it comes to actually writing the novel. Characters tend to have a mind of their own. Plotting allows me to see what direction the story may go, permitting me to explore all paths before I chose one.
What advice would you give new authors?
Ask questions! Seek out other writers and learn as much as you can from their experiences. I have a wonderful support group of writers, some indie and a few traditional. Something I’ve learned is that writers are more than happy to share what they’ve learned. And if they don’t know the answer, they will point you to another writer who does. In addition, as a writer you must be willing to help others as well. Share what you learn with other new writers.
Do you have another book in the works?
OMG! I do…
A few months ago I read Wallflower by Catherine Gayle and she wrote a scene that involved a duel. The heroine wanted to take the place of her beta male counterpart. She was scared to lose him. Talk about true love!
I started thinking...what if a young girl of the ton was responsible for the death of a man because of a duel she egged on? The next logical question was...what if BOTH men died? Then I took it one step further...what if the men were brothers? Shunned No More, The Forsaken Lady Series (Book 1) progressed from there.
I have a heroine that the reader should despise during the prologue but hopefully I can redeem her by the end of the book.
Oh, and of course I’m working on Only In Her Nightmares, The Oneiroi Book 2, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer for deets on this project.
What do you like to do in your free time, besides read and write of course?
What free time? Just kidding! In my free time I lead a Girl Scout troop full of 6 to 8 year olds. They keep me very busy. I also enjoy watching tv, golfing, and spending time with my dogs.
Where do you dream of going on vacation?
Maui, Hawaii! I was married on Maui and honeymooned there for 14 days…I’ve wanted to go back ever since.
Boxers or Briefs? Boxer Briefs!
Cookies or cake? CAKE! I love cake; wedding cake, birthday cake, baby shower cake…
Pizza or hamburger? Pizza, especially pepperoni, black olives, and extra sauce!
Beer, Wine, or mixed drink? Depends where I am…although a glass of red wine will never go to waste in my house.
Want to meet the hero of Open House?
Here he is! Meet Robert Corvin. Isn't he just scrumptious? Well, Rebecca thinks so too. So don't get too handsy *wink*. Here's one of my favorite snippets.
Rebecca raised herself up on her elbows and tried to look through the opening into the dining room, but he was out of sight. She could hear bags rustling and smiled when he returned with the comforter set they had picked out for the master bedroom.
“I think this will do quite nicely.” His huge, adorable grin made her insides melt. She nodded and sat up on the edge of the counter. He gazed at her, his eyes sweeping from the tips of her toes up to her eyes.
Rebecca started when he grabbed her suddenly and gently threw her over his shoulder. His arm was wrapped around her bare thighs, while his hand rested very casually on one cheek.
“Robert!”
“Yes, Rebecca?” He continued walking through the kitchen and then into the living room. She shook her hair from her face and saw the comforter bag swinging from his other hand.
“How is it that I am completely naked while you haven’t shed even one stitch of clothing?”
“Because you were dinner, Rebecca.”
A snort escaped, mixing with her laughter. “Remind me to have dinner with you more often. I have been missing out.”
     “You? What about me?”
Krystal Shannan Interviews - Virginia Nelson - Hypnotist
Please help me welcome Virginia Nelson to the blog today!
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a single mother of three wonderful children living on the icy banks of Lake Erie.  Addicted to coffee, I chug mass quantities of it to ward off the chill and fuel my muse.
Did you always want to be an author?
No, I wanted to be an astronaut. Failing that, I wanted to be the president.  So far, neither of those have worked out even though some of my lesser aspirations have.  The cool thing about being an author is that I get to be everything all the time.  Plus, I don’t have to worry about oxygen or wearing a suit.
What is your favorite part of being a writer/author?
The magic.  Just by typing a few words on the page, I can make a reader have a physical response. I might make them cry, laugh, get a little excited…but it’s a real reaction to me stringing sentences together.  If that’s not magic, I’m not sure what is.
Tell us a little about your book.
Who knew quitting could be so hot?
Carnie Sabatina wants to break her bad habits, but is a hypnotist really the answer? Enter Doctor McSexy and a trip down the rabbit hole that not only makes her a believer, but sets her passion on fire.
Is it tempting fate to take control?
Mike Schommer’s love life crashed and burned when his ex dumped him for his best friend, but can playing with fire really save his heart? Enter Patient McHottie whose bad habits open a pandora’s box of secret cravings for hypnotist and patient...
Burning Up
One hypnotic suggestion sends them up in flames, but will temptation and passion be enough to turn their parlor tricks into happily ever after?
Excerpt:
As her eyelids fluttered open, a refreshed sense of peace and energy washed over her, as if she hadn’t stayed up past three a.m. then got back up at six that morning to meet a deadline.
No, not just refreshed and energized.
Impassioned.
Flicking a glance at the man next to her, so calm and cool, she knew what she wanted.
I want him to burn like I do.
Never having experienced that kind of immediate need for someone before, she was at a loss. She normally followed her impulses but….
I dare.
He smiled at her and it was weighted with exhaustion. He came across like a nice guy. A really nice guy.
She wanted to see him be a naughty guy.
Practicing powers of seduction she didn’t even know she had, she adjusted herself on the couch, intentionally allowing her skirt to ride up.
“Look, I am sorry that the hypnotism didn’t work on me. I mean, you gave it a shot.” She tossed her hair back, wondering for a moment how it came down.
His lips curled up slowly. “Thanks for that.”
“Mmm. I could reward you for giving it a shot, anyway.”
His brows dropped. “Huh?”
One of her hands dropped to his thigh, resting on the couch next to her, and she slowly caressed the tight denim. “I mean, you tried. The least I could do is give you a kiss….”
When did you start writing and when did you finish your first book?
I started writing as soon as I could spell.  I finished my first book when I was nine years old but it’s not one you’ll ever see on shelves.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Everywhere.  From sitting in a drive-thru to words overheard at a doctor’s office, everything is fuel for storytelling.
Do you plot and outline or do you just write?  Plotter or Pantser?
 Both and neither.  I write the blurb and figure out some major details about my main characters.  Then I just sit down and write.  I’ve found the further into the book I can go without resorting to an outline to figure out how I’m going to get where I’m headed, the easier it is for me to write.
Can you tell us a little about the process of getting your first book published?
 I sent out my first book to twenty seven different publishers once a week for a year.  After a while, it became sort of rote.  Ah, it’s Monday.  Fire off query letters.  Look, three requests for partials, one full and five rejections.  Moving on.  When I finally got my acceptance letter, I read it four times without really comprehending what it was.  My son looked at it and asked, “Doesn’t this mean you sold your book?”  Then I screamed, danced, cried, the works.  My mom, though, always good for keeping me grounded, didn’t seem shocked at all.  “Well, of course you got a contract. Wasn’t that why you’ve been writing books?”
What book have you most recently released?
My most recent release would be Hypnotist, part of the Edge Series with Decadent.  All told, for 2012, I have eight releases.  I have two on the schedule so far for 2013, two out on submissions and another four waiting in the wings. I’ve come a long way from that first book!
What was your favorite part of the book?
The idea of having no restrictions—being able to explore your desires and having no inhibitions to hold you back.
Rate your story in terms steaminess?
On a scale of one to five, I would give it a five.
Do you have another book in the works?
A few. I have a paranormal BDSM I'm writing that incorporates bounty hunters and reapers.
What advice would you give new authors?  What have you learned about the business?
Never give up.  This business is set up in a way to chew you up and spit you out if you don’t want it bad enough and no matter how big you get, there’s four other people nipping at your heels and dying to take your place.  If you want it, grab it.  Also, the race is never against anyone but yourself.  Other authors can be your biggest cheerleaders because they’re the only ones who will ever really understand what you’re doing but if you try to compare yourself to any of them, you’ll never be really happy with what you’re doing.
Boxers or Briefs?
Commando.
Pizza or hamburger?
Sushi.  Sorry, I’m not doing well at this section at ALL.
ROFL! It's awesome, keep it up.
Beer, Wine, or mixed drink?
Wine or mixed drink.  Both, if we’re hanging out a while.
If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be?  Would you write or read there, or do something else?
Ireland and I would be just listening.  The accent makes my heart flutter…
(Character Questions)
What were your first impressions of each other?
Carnie:  I dropped my phone, so the first thing I saw was his shoes.  Then these legs, wrapped in denim.  I might have paused and considered—
Mike: Ogled.
Carnie:  I didn’t ogle you!
Mike: She did.  I liked it.
What’s your favorite characteristic of each other?
Mike: I got this one.
Carnie:  No, you don’t!
Mike: She’s worried I’m going to name body parts.
Carnie: Were you going to?
Mike:  Nope.  I was going to say I liked the fact you go after what you want.
Carnie: *snorts* That’s only because what I wanted was you.
Mike:  I’m not saying it didn’t work out for me.  I’m just saying I liked it.
What are your plans for the near future?
Mine or the characters?  Mike and Carnie are living happily ever after.  Probably together as much as can be managed because they’re both pretty insatiable… My plans for the future are writing more books and attending some conferences early next year.  I’m really looking forward to the Naughty Sleepover in San Antonio!
